Royal Electric Company

From the Barn and Beyond:
A Company History of Continuing Growth and Development

Roy Electric was founded by brothers Phil and Rich Roy in June of 1969, upon their graduation from the New Hampshire Technical Institute. The company's original base of operations was a garage on the family farm in Bath, New Hampshire. Originally created as an electrical contracting company specializing in residential and commercial wiring, within two years the company branched out into industrial work and has continued to grow ever since.

On the Move

Success led to the demand for office space, so the company moved to 81 Central Street in Woodsville, New Hampshire in the spring of 1973. At this time, a third brother, Norman, was added as a partner.

The next five years saw rapid growth and the addition of six field personnel. The company was incorporated as Royal Electric Company, Inc., in 1974.

Richard Roy and James Roy, 1994 Early in 1978, it became clear that the company was outgrowing its facilities. In August of that year, the three partners bought the Odd Fellow Block at 29 Central Street in Woodsville, New Hampshire, and after renovations moved in during the fall of that year.

During the next several years, Royal Electric continued expand, gradually shifting emphasis from residential-commercial work to commercial-industrial wiring, including energy controls, ski areas, high voltage, paper mills and other industries. The company also opened a retail outlet for the sale of electrical materials which was expanded into a hardware store. This store was later sold.

Where We Are Now

Recognizing that the 29 Central Street location would not serve the company's long-term needs, in 1985 the partners purchased an adjacent property -- an auction barn. After extensive renovation, this location was transformed to provide 5000 square feet of warehouse space and 3000 square feet of office space at our present address, 33 Central Street.

Over the years, Royal Electric has developed a reputation as a quality company providing the very best in the electrical contracting field. This reputation for reliability and integrity in the industry has enabled Royal Electric to establish contracts throughout the Northeastern United States.

A Community-minded Company

Royal Electric maintains a work force of electricians who live in the North Country. Additional employees are sometimes hired locally at project locations. We encourage all employees to be involved in their communities through civic organizations, schools, charitable organizations, church groups, scouting, Little League, and so forth. As a company, Royal Electric supports many of these organizations on local, state, and national levels.

Royal Electric has its roots in New England's heritage of pride in hard work and craftmanship. Though our work continues to change according to contemporary demands in our industry, our values remain the same.
